BioMedInnovations announced the completion of an extensive preclinical testing program evaluating its OrganBank™ organ perfusion device for the preservation and perfusion of kidneys.
Conducted over a 26-month period, the program involved the perfusion of more than 30 non-human primate, porcine, and discarded human kidneys. Kidneys were perfused for more than 24 hours using an acellular perfusate solution at room temperature.
The testing represented an important stage in the development of the OrganBank platform, providing experience across multiple kidney models and extended periods of machine perfusion. The work also supported continued development of the system’s room-temperature, acellular approach to organ preservation.
Extended organ preservation has the potential to provide transplant teams with more time for assessment, coordination, transportation, and planning—areas where the traditional constraints of organ preservation can create significant logistical challenges.
The completion of this testing program marked another step in BioMedInnovations’ ongoing development of technologies designed to advance organ preservation and transplantation.
